Meet Southern Mother Samantha L. with photography by Sage & Petal Photography
Sometimes the most out of the ordinary venues provide the most stunning backdrops. Meadowlark Botanical Gardens is a shining example. With beautiful views, flowers, and plants at every turn and a beautiful boardwalk leading out to a gazebo overlooking the sparkling waters. Sage & Petal captured image after sun-filled image, you will be hopping onto the Botanical Garden bandwagon by the end of this beautiful 10-year Annivarsary family photo session with motherhood musings from Southern Mother Samantha L. in Virginia
To me motherhood is an adventure and the most important work I will ever do, building a relationship with these tiny humans entrusted to me. To nurture, love, and grow into kind, caring, awesome adults.
MOTHERHOOD MUSINGS FROM SOUTHERN MOTHER, SAMANTHA L.
How Many Children Do You Have?
What are your must-have kid items?
Baby wipes, always. My kids are well past the baby stage and I still keep a pack on me at all times!
Tell us about what each one of your children has taught you about life, love, and motherhood.
Through their unique personalities and differing needs my children have taught me that each person is unique (even if they all came from you!) People just need to be listened to and understood in their own unique way.
How has having children changed your relationship? Any suggestions on how to keep the marriage/relationship alive?
My husband and I had children so early in our relationship that it didn’t just change it, it shaped it. We have grown together as people and as parents. The most important suggestion I have is to make time for each other. If you are feeling distant, don’t ignore it. Make a date night, even if it is just curling up in bed with sushi and Netflix after the kids are in bed.
What are some of your most cherished memories of motherhood?
I believe that everyday life, those tiny moments in between, are the most cherished of all. I know that is what I will look back on and miss when my children are grown
What most surprised you about motherhood?
The most surprising thing about motherhood is how fast it goes and how desperately you want to slow it down despite the fact that most days you are hanging on by a thread.
What has been your greatest challenge in motherhood?
Patience. Patience. Patience.
Has your style changed since becoming a mom?
I love clothing and fashion so my style is always changing, but the more children I have the more comfortable I get in my own skin. I love dressing up and feeling fabulous, but I have no problem being yoga pantsed and naked-faced in public!
If you get any “me time”, how do you wind down or spend it?
Do you have a family tradition that you are passing on to your children?
Family time. We have two weekly family time slots in our schedule. Monday is a family night where we play games or watch movies. Every week isn’t elaborate, but I have so much fun creating themed snacks, drinks, and activities. Thursday afternoons after school are Tea Time, we drink tea and have a snack while we chat. Tea Time only lasts for about half an hour but its such a great time to reconnect.
How do you manage to keep all of the plates spinning? What helps you juggle motherhood?
Organization! I love using paper and pen, but I also love the Evernote app on my phone. It is my digital brain!
What is your greatest joy in being a mother?
There are so many joys as a mother, but my greatest joy is watching my children discover something for the first time. I love guiding them and watching their face light up as they figure out the world and how to navigate it on their own.
If you could give your children one piece of advice what would it be?
Be Brave. Be Kind. Trust yourself. And leave your heart open to all the magic and wonder in the world.
Tell us about your session and what the images mean to you.
This photoshoot was to celebrate our ten year wedding anniversary and these photos capture our love so beautifully. Shelby is an incredible photographer. She makes you feel so comfortable like you were made to be behind the camera!
