Tell us about your baby shower.
This is my first baby and I basically had it planned a year ago! Yes- before I was pregnant…check my Pinterest! My wedding was small and I really loved it but now I work in the wedding industry and I have people who I loved (and love me) who I knew needed to be a part of my shower! My mom and sisters did so much for this to make it perfect! So did Georgia, who let us use her beautiful garden to have our celebration of baby Poppy! The weather was amazing! It was gorgeous and it was perfect! I was everything I envisioned and more! The theme was tropical! Lots of deep green, with pineapples and pinks throughout! And instead of the typical flower crown, we went with a floral lei.
In your own words, tell us about being pregnant.
Before I got pregnant I was very nervous. My mother had a lot of difficulties in her pregnancies. However, I have had the easiest and best experience! I am so thankful for that! I am such a planner- my husband and I waited to be married over 6 years before adding this new girl to our life. One thing I could not plan for is how emotional pregnancy has been! I definitely cry about something almost every day! Now I am just full of excitement and love for my baby girl and our little family!

What are your must-have pregnancy items?
What were some of your favorite elements of your shower?
The pineapples, the florals
How has pregnancy changed you as a woman?
I would never have said pregnancy is easy before- but now I have a much deeper understand and respect for any woman who has been pregnant and is a mother for sure! It is empowering, but also the most vulnerable I have ever felt in my life! The responsibility to take care of myself and my growing baby is always on my mind! When I found out I was pregnant Poppy was just about the size of a poppy seed…not even 5 weeks along! From that moment on she is the first thing I think about no matter what!
Can you share with our mommies where you purchased the items you wore for your baby shower?
The dress was Amazon, shoes (which you couldn’t really see) were Jessica Simpson and the lei was made by Justin Wham!
If you could give your baby one piece of advice what would it be for when he/she grow up, what would it be?
To figure out who you are and be confident in it! Self-awareness will get you farther in life than those around you. It will help you achieve your goals, have healthy relationships and to make decisions that will make you happy!
Kind words about your photographer? Tell us about your session and what the images mean to you.
Mell has been in my life for years! She helped photography my wedding and when I started learning photography she helped teach me! When important moments happen in our lives we are always happy to photograph them for each other! It was so nice that she did this for us!

MEET THE PHOTOGRAPHER:
MELL BELL of Richard Bell Photography
My favorite part is eye crinkles. Eye crinkles are those beautiful lines that appear beside your eyes when you really smile. I first noticed them in my mom and dad’s wedding album. The photographer took an image of my father just looking at my mother. He had to sweetest smile with a twinkle in his eyes and those magical eye crinkles. My father died when I was just thirteen, and I have very few photos of him. But when I see a bride and groom with eye crinkles, it reminds me of my dad.
My husband, Nathan, wooed me officially into the family studio in 2005 when we were married. I assisted him and was his second photographer for years until the day I photographed my first wedding as the lead photographer. I remember one day after a wedding I second shot with him, Nathan viewed my images and said, “Mell Bell, you’re a freaking awesome photographer.” To this day, I still have him repeat this to me before every wedding I photograph. I hired him back in the day to take my photos for my college senior portraits. In fact, I was officially the first person to hire Nathan specifically to take pictures, and the rest is history.
My best friend forever, and I mean, forever…. is Wanda. She works here too, and we can be silly, awkward, creative, and ourselves together through our company mellBella Boudoir & Pinup Photography. Together, we have plans to take over the world of feminine photography.
I love Wonder Woman, Diet Dr Pepper, Jack Daniels, flip-flops, and nice people. If you’re nice, let’s do this.
