What does motherhood mean to you?
Motherhood means unconditional love. It means taking the time to nurture someone all the way into adulthood even if you have to put yourself last sometimes. It means being the best example of what love looks like which includes being supportive, being present, and even being a disciplinarian…being everything your child needs.
In your own words, tell us about being pregnant, the mother you have become while carrying new life, and how it’s changed you.
Being pregnant has been a great experience. I have enjoyed watching my body grow and change thus far. Being a woman is truly miraculous. I am thankful to have a supportive husband to help me along the way and navigate the new stages together. Now, I think more about the decisions I make and how it will affect me and the baby. I am more conscious about what I eat and make sure I always make time to unwind. I’m not always on the go like I used to be.
Did you find out the gender of your baby? Is there a name picked out yet?
Yes and yes, Brielle Nola
What are your must-have pregnancy items?
My body pillow, water and juices…and Fanta strawberry soda for the weekend! Lol Lots of fruit…grapes and apples to be precise.
How did you find out you were expecting?
Funny story…my husband Brannon and I are coming up on our 5th Anniversary. We were getting to the point where we were ready to start trying to have a baby, so I made a doctor’s appointment just to make sure everything was okay. I have PCOS and that can sometimes cause infertility. So we are at the doctor’s office and she is discussing all of our options in great detail if we did run into infertility issues…this was probably a 15 minute conversation! Lol Then, she says, “Let’s take a pregnancy test since you’re here.” My cycle hadn’t started but I didn’t think anything of it. The doctor comes back in the room a couple of minutes later and says, “Well we talked about all of that for nothing! Congratulations…you’re pregnant!!!” Shock hit us both immediately but needless to say we were both extremely happy! God is full of surprises!
How did you tell the father?
He was there with me when I found out.
How has pregnancy changed you as a woman?
I feel like a new woman. I was an adult before but now it seems like I’m a “real” adult. LOL I am going to be responsible for a whole human being–full time! I feel like I’m at the final level of womanhood and when the baby gets here, I will be complete.
What are some of your most cherished memories of your child and do you plan on passing down any southern traditions?
•Spending a lot time with family and all of the lavish meals when we all got together. Christmas time is always very memorable. My siblings and I were very close with our grandparents and I want to make sure Brielle has that same opportunity with her grandparents and cousins.
•Just being a kid! I remember playing outside until the sunset or until the streetlights came on. LOL I was able to explore all of the activities and sports I was interested in. I want to make sure Brielle enjoys all innocence that childhood brings so she can look back and say she had the best childhood.
What most surprised you about pregnancy?
How easy it is! I have heard stories of how difficult pregnancy can be. Thankfully, it has been smooth sailing so far. I didn’t have morning sickness or nausea too much; the worst day was Christmas…go figure! I was still able to eat a variety of things during the first trimester without getting sick. I am really blessed to have a wonderful experience with my first pregnancy.
What has been your greatest challenge being pregnant?
Sleeping comfortably. My body pillow has been a lifesaver and I am able to get adequate sleep. However, I miss being able to sleep on my back or stomach.
What is your greatest joyful memory of being pregnant?
I just love being able to feel her move in my belly. I feel as if it’s her way of communicating with me right now. Also, all the love and support we have from family and friends and she’s not even here yet. I am truly grateful!
What advice do you wish you had known before getting pregnant (even if it’s something gross)?
To be prepared for constipation! Lol
What would you tell someone who just found out they were pregnant?
To enjoy every moment of it because it really goes by fast. Even if you’re having a difficult pregnancy, just breathe and try to focus on the positive things. Do not look up everything on the internet because you will drive yourself crazy!!! It’s okay to call your doctor every day if you want for your own peace of mine. And make sure you take time to relax!
Can you share with our mommies where you purchased the items you wore for your maternity session?
My dress came from windsorstore.com.
Did you have any pregnancy cravings or aversions?
I want carbs, carbs, and more carbs! French fries or loaded baked potatoes are my favorites! I am really trying to limit myself. I don’t like things that are sweet. That goes against the old wives tale for having a little girl. Lol
Do you have any favorite maternity items you couldn’t live without?
Burt’s Bees Mama Bee Belly Butter & Nourishing Body Oil
If you could give your child(ren) one piece of advice what would it be?
Live your life with no regrets and don’t let other people affect the way you think or behave…be your best self!
Tell us about your session and what the images mean to you.
Ashley was the best and it was the best experience. We were so comfortable and it didn’t feel like it was “work” or just another session for her. You can tell she really enjoys doing this and she connects with her clients very easily. She made sure with were comfortable with everything and we literally lost track of time because we were having so much fun. All of the pictures were beautiful and I want prints of them all!!!
