What does motherhood mean to you?
It’s definitely a rush of emotions hard to put into words. When I think of motherhood, I think of my mom and think super woman. I’m the eldest of eight children and I think of how many hats my mom wore every day. I can only hope my little guy will look at me the same way I feel about my mom.
Pregnancy definitely has its ups and down. It has been the absolute most amazing experience and I’m gonna keep it real … worst experience. It’s hard! Your body is changing, your hormones are up and down, there are so many things that happen while pregnant that no one ever tells you! It’s like a secret society. But it’s also the most magical experience of my life this far. Feeling your baby move inside you or react to your voice and touch is beyond anything I ever imagined.
Baby’s Name (First & Middle)
What are your must-have pregnancy items?
Anything that makes life a little more comfortable.
1. Baby Center App, specifically the “birth club” it’s a community of mama’s all due the same month as you that post about a variety of things. It helped me feel like I wasn’t alone throughout my journey, whether your curious about what to pack in your delivery bag or if your chronic back pain is normal and many things in-between.
2. Nespresso machine and frother
2. YETI 30 oz Tumbler with straw for lemon water
3. I found a great dress on Amazon that’s under $20 and can be worn during pregnancy and post pregnancy for nursing. I have one in every color.
4. Shoes that slide on
5. Bravado Body Silk Seamless Nursing Bra
6. My super supportive husband
How did you find out you were expecting?
My husband and I actually found out together while driving home from my parents farm in North Dakota over Christmas break. We were on a 15 hour road trip back to our home in Denver, Colorado.
How has pregnancy changed you as a woman?
Pregnancy has definitely made me a softy. You start to look at the world through a different lens and what’s truly important to you. Experiences not things, family and to be a kind person.
What are some of your most cherished memories of your child and do you plan on passing down any southern traditions?
I’m from the Midwest and I definitely want to pass on memories that I experienced as a child but also start new traditions with my husband. We love to camp and spend time outdoors and that will be something that we pass on to our future children. You can find us camping and hiking the Rocky Mountains.
What most surprised you about pregnancy?
I have to laugh at myself for this but I thought pregnancy had to be butterflies and rainbows, after all my mom had eight kids, right? WRONG lol
What has been your greatest challenge in being pregnant?
Getting to the gym. Pre-pregnancy I loved going to the gym 5 to 6 days a week, it was my hobby, my outlet, how I would decompress. I make it about 3 times a week now if I’m lucky at 34 weeks pregnant.
What is your greatest joyful memory of being pregnant?
One morning in bed my husband tells me, “I had my hand on your belly last night and Julian was kicking so hard I can’t believe you were asleep.” He’s so proud of his son it makes me giddy. But also makes me laugh because he just has no idea how active the baby is.
What advice do you wish you had known before getting pregnant (even if it’s something gross)?
I would just say try embrace pregnancy as much as possible. When you’re 12, 20, even 24 weeks pregnant you’re soooo excited for you belly to “pop” don’t rush it, TRUST me you’ll pop and then run out of the room and wonder where baby is going to go.
What would you tell someone who just found out they were pregnant?
Start looking for childcare immediately! Get your name on lists as soon as possible so you don’t stress about child care down the road.
Can you share with our mommies where you purchased the items you wore for your maternity session?
The blue and white dress is from Free People, layered necklace from Free People, and Steve Madden Free Bird sandals.
The all white eyelet dress is from Free People, Steve Madden Free Bird sandals, turquoise rings and bracelets are a collection from past travels.
Did you have any pregnancy cravings or aversions?
SUGAR! Anything sweet is all I have craved my entire pregnancy. Normally I’m a savory gal so this totally threw me for a loop. Donuts, ice cream, watermelon, homemade apple pie, rhubarb crisp, banana bread… omg I’m hungry.
Do you have any favorite maternity items you couldn’t live without?
I think this is the same question as above.
“What are your must-have pregnancy items?”
If you could give your child(ren) one piece of advice what would it be?
Words about your photographer? Tell us about your session and what the images mean to you.
MacKenzi was fantastic! She made the entire shoot feel so natural and seamless. She gave us direction without things looking posed. These are images and memories we will keep forever and I’m so happy she was able to capture the look and feel of what I was envisioning. I can’t say enough wonderful things about her. She will also be taking my labor & delivery photos as well as newborn & family imagines and I cannot wait to have these memories forever.
