Children are a mother’s greatest treasure and a treasure these babies are. Jade Leyane and Jett Lukas Ekvall are both named after gems and not only that, our entire family has the same set of initials.
In your own words, what does motherhood mean to you?
To me, motherhood is everything. These are the BEST days of my life and I am so blessed that God has trusted me to care for and nurture these tiny humans. It isn’t always pretty, but it is always worth it.
How Many Children Do You Have?
What are your must-have kid items?
Swingset – It is my daughters favorite.
Books – We read at nap time and at bedtime. It is a very important part of our routine.
Tell us about what each one of your children has taught you about life, love, and motherhood.
My daughter, Jade is our oldest and she has taught me patience and compassion. She is still teaching me compassion. That little girl has the most kind hearted and beautiful soul I have ever seen. Even when someone is mean to her, she just can’t help but show kindness and it makes me so proud to know that she has such a loving spirit. I want to be like her when I grow up haha.
My son, Jett has taught me how to be a little bit more relaxed and mellow. When he joined our family, we were just a family of 3 and we had routine and did things a certain way. Adding a baby into the mix makes things a lot harder, especially because my husband was working out of town. I have had to learn that we do what we do, when we can do it, and if we don’t get to it then oh well because mama doesn’t always have time. Every decision is spur of the moment these days.
How has having children changed your relationship? Any suggestions on how to keep the marriage/relationship alive?
Our babies are literally the center of our world and we love them with everything that we have..
Now, with that being said, they suck every ounce of energy out of you. You can’t forget to take the time to serve your spouse so that your appreciation shows and to just laugh with them. Jamin is my best friend so we are always laughing with each other.
I remember one night in our first home, we were remodeling so it was a huge mess and we didn’t have a table yet. Our daughter was a very clingy baby and didn’t like not being held by me. I was desperate for just one single date night with my husband and I was almost in tears because we didn’t have any time for just us anymore. He took a plastic storage bin, turned it upside town to turn it into a table, lit candles, and cooked dinner so that we could have a candlelit dinner. We sat on the floor to eat at our makeshift table but that is one of my favorite memories. So even with life gets crazy, grasp onto those tiny little windows of time that you have and pour love onto your spouse.
Play, laugh, joke, and serve.
I try to always live by this. We play often, laugh all of the time, joke daily with each other, and I ALWAYS try to remember to ask my husband if he needs anything or if I can help him with something. A little bit of appreciation can go a long way, so never forget to tell your spouse how thankful you are for everything they do.
What are some of your most cherished memories of motherhood?
When my babies are snuggled up to me in bed. It reminds me that they still need me and that I have to work hard to make sure they always feel cherished.
What most surprised you about motherhood?
My strength! I never knew a strength like this until I birthed Jade.
What has been your greatest challenge in motherhood?
Patience. Sometimes it is very hard and challenging to stay calm.
Has your style changed since becoming a mom?
Yes! I find myself buying more conservative items, I listen to different music, and I don’t think the way I did before them.
If you get any “me time”, how do you wind down or spend it?
SLEEPING! I love my sleep and kids put a damper on that si I nap as often as I can.
Do you have a family tradition that you are passing onto your child(ren)?
We will pass down our Thanksgiving tradition.
How do you manage to keep all of the plates spinning? What helps you juggle motherhood?
Prayer! During church after I drop my babies off to class, I sit (usually off by myself on the balcony) and I give it all to God!
What is your greatest joy in being a mother?
My greatest joy is seeing my babies smile at me at bedtime, when they wrap their little arms around me, and when I hear mama.
If you could give your child(ren) one piece of advice what would it be?
Always be kind
When you don’t have anything left to give, give some more
Honor God always
Hi! I am formerly known as Sees The Moment Photography but this past year we have rebranded. I am super sad to see our old name leave us but you know what they say! “Out with the old, and in with the new!”.
Photography has been a huge part of my life since 2014. I am so blessed and honored to have come this far and there is no way I could have done all of this without the amazing support system that I have. I met my husband in early 2012 and we have been inseparable since then. 2013 was a BIG year for us. Our fierce firecracker of a daughter was born and she has had us wrapped around her tiny little fingers ever since, we purchased and flipped our first home too. We married in July of 2014 on the beaches of Florida! In 2018, our family and hearts were completed whenever our second (and last) child joined us earthside.
My husband, Jamin, is not only my husband but my best friend and he has just been amazing throughout this entire journey. Our children are literally everything that I hold dear. They are the light of my life and my greatest treasure, which is where their name comes from. Jade and Jett are both names of gems. Children are supposed to be your greatest treasure so it was only fitting. We also all share the same initials, we are all JLE.
You’ll probably hear me say “y’all,”. I love the smell of fresh cut grass. I believe sweet tea is liquid magic, and I function best when I have coffee in hand. I am known for my lightweight coffee, chicken and rice casserole, gym clothes, homemade pizza, holy jeans, always have snacks in my bag, my love for chick-fil-a, and my secret shame – any show on the CW.
