Birthday: June 6
What are you passionate about the most: I have a passion for Children’s Literature. I firmly believe that reading is the foundation of all subjects. Through reading, we can build on Science, History, even Math. I think it is important to teach our students and children the importance of reading but also encourage them to find something they love. I think a lot of the problem in schools today is that children are not allowed to choose books they are passionate about. As a teacher, we have so much we are required to teach them so much in such a short amount of time that even we have lost the freedom to teach what we love. I wish I could just get back to my own love of reading and incorporate that throughout my lessons.
You would be surprised to know: That I only wash my hair once a week. I know it sounds terrible but I have found that my hair does better with less washing. It took a while to be able to go this long without washing, but now that I have gotten to this point, my hair is healthier and has never looked better. Dry Shampoo is also my best friend!
Favorite class, you’ve ever taken high school or college: I loved all of my Honors Literature classes in High School. I had some amazing teachers who let us really explore the novels we were reading. It was those classes that really helped to further my foundation in a love of reading.
How I met my husband: I actually tutored him in High School Geometry. I was a Freshman and he was Junior. We were only friends at that time. About ten years later I was tutoring someone else in Geometry and it brought back memories of him. When I got home that night I messaged him on Facebook to catch up and the rest is history!
Married Tradition: We get Starbucks every Sunday before church together. It is something silly and little but he knows how much I love their coffee!
My favorite motherhood memory: I loved that I was able to breastfeed my daughter. It was something that I always wanted to do, even before I was pregnant. It was hard and I definitely worked my booty off but, I was able to provide her with only breast milk until her 1st birthday. Then, I was able to nurse her mornings and nights until she was 22 months old. I am so proud that I was able to surpass my goal of Breastfeeding for a year!
How many kids do I have: One precious, feisty little redhead named Vivilyn. She is my Mini and my best friend!
How I came to be with Southern Motherhood: Through posting on Instagram and my sweet friend Kate, I was invited to a Mommy Blogger Dinner with some other amazing Mom Bloggers. We all had an amazing time and our personalities just clicked! I am excited to be on this journey with some truly exceptional Mommas!
Favorite Southern Tradition: I love a good bonfire with family, friends and ooey-gooey S’mores. Nothing compares to a big, tall glass of my Momma’s Sweet Tea and covered luncheons after church on Sunday are the best. Nothing beats that dessert table! I also love that people in the South still write Thank You notes. My Momma taught me how important it was and that little card can go such a long way! I have a box of cute stationary just for this reason!
The best part of being a blogger: I have been privileged to meet and work with some amazing women and brands. It is amazing how my little corner of the internet has opened so many doors! It is also really nice to have a place that is all mine. It is a place where I can share my thoughts and beliefs and no one can take that away from me.
What I do in my spare time: Like any good Southern Girl, I love shopping with my Momma. I also love walking around Downtown Savannah. We live in such a beautiful city. Also, since I am always on the go, nothing beats a good Netflix marathon with a big glass of wine!
Southern Motherhood is: enjoying every moment. Like the long days of summer, you take time, sit back and just relax. I feel like we get so caught up in the business of being busy that it is easy to miss out on the life happening around us. In the South, we take things one day at a time and just enjoy the simplicity of all that life has to offer. Our babies are only babies once so we may as well make the best of every situation.
Sweet Tea or Coffee: While I do love Sweet Tea, I cannot live without my Coffee!!
Favorite Colors: I love Pinks, Blue and Green but I have found that rich jewel tones look best on me.
My Southern Style is: A great fitting pair of destroyed jeans, a cute off the shoulder top, fun statement earrings and a cute pair of wedges. Pair all this with one of my Kate Spade handbags and I am set!
Favorite Target Isle: I love the clothing, shoes and accessories sections at Target! Their new lines are so cute!! I also cannot leave without visiting the Dollar Spot. They always have the cutest things that are perfect for decorating for the holidays, refilling my Treasure Box at school, or just getting a little treat for Vivi.
