For me, motherhood is finding absolute joy in selflessness- an idea that was incomprehensible prior to having my daughter.
What are your must-have newborn baby items?
Tell us about the first days of bringing your baby home, the ups and the downs.
I could not believe I had such a perfect baby; however, breastfeeding was so much harder than I had thought!
Did you bottle or breastfeed, what is your advice for new mothers?
Originally I was going to breastfeed, but my daughter had serious reflux and was not keeping food down. We had to switch her to a special formula which made a huge difference. My advice is do what is best for your child. Sometimes doing the “best” may look different than you had originally planned, but everything will work out.
What are some of your most cherished memories of motherhood?
As exhausting as it was to get up every other hour during the night, those moments of quietly rocking my baby while the rest of the world sleeps is something I will never forget.
What most surprised you about motherhood?
I was shocked at the amount of love I feel for my daughter. I had no idea I was capable of such love! It also gave me a greater appreciation for my own parents.
What has been your greatest challenge in motherhood?
Transitioning to working full-time has been the greatest challenge. My daughter goes to a great daycare, but it has definitely been tough for me. I always want the weekends to last a little longer so I can spend more time with her!
Has your style changed since becoming a mom?
If you consider leggings and a baggy shirt as “style” then yes, my style has changed dramatically. Long earrings and necklaces have been retired along with any form of heel. I do my best to look cute, but it’s hard to work around spit-up stains.
If you get any “me time”, how do you wind down or spend it?
I give myself 15 minutes every day to do a quick workout. It might be circuit training, cardio, or strength training. That small amount of time allows me to refocus and re-energize so I can give my best to my daughter.
How has having a baby changed your relationship?
I remember after coming home from the hospital, my husband went to a store to pick up several items for my post-labor pains. When he returned, I started crying telling him how much I loved him and how much my love for him has grown in such a small amount of time. He kind of laughed it off and blamed my hormones (I’m not usually a “mushy” person), but it was so true. Seeing my husband as a loving father has been amazing, and my love for him has grown exponentially.
Looking back to your first days of parents, what would you tell yourself?
I would tell myself to not worry as much. This is easier said than done, considering I still need to tell this to myself every day, but I would encourage my husband and me by reminding us that
What is your greatest joy in being a mother?
With my daughter being my first child, it has been fun figuring out this new life together. I absolutely love watching her grow and learn new skills. They really do grow up fast and I am enjoying each moment along the way.
Tell us about your session and what the images mean to you.
We could not have chosen a better photographer for our newborn session than with Kelly of Lifetime of Clicks Photography. I was so excited to have her pictures taken, but when my daughter refused to sleep and then wetted several props, I started to become nervous. Kelly, on the other hand, was so patient and so grateful the entire time. She made me feel very comfortable and calmed all my nerves. Her skill set is remarkable, and I am still amazed by her swaddling skills! The images she provided are so close to my heart. Babies are only babies for a while, and I am so glad I have these pictures to look back on for a lifetime.
Meet the photographer:
Kelly, here. I’m the founder and photographer behind Lifetime of Clicks Photography. Photography has been a love of mine from a very young age, but it wasn’t until I had two boys of my own and went through some scary moments after birth, that I realized how important these moments are. These moments that pass so fast, moments that you can never get back. I truly enjoy telling your story by capturing all of the raw and honest memories to last a lifetime. Serving Houston, Katy, Sugar Land, The Woodlands and surrounding communities. Thanks for being here; I praise you for taking time to do this for your family. You’ll never regret having photos because, as the quote goes, “SOMEDAY THEY WILL BE ALL THAT’S LEFT” xoxo, Kelly
