Meet Southern Mother Elizabeth M. with Whimsical Woodland Maternity Photos
I truly don’t think I have fully grasped what motherhood will mean to me just yet. Some days I’m still in disbelief that I’m actually going to be a mother in a few short weeks, but I do know that I have felt so much love for this little life that I haven’t met yet. I can only imagine what that day will feel like, meeting my son for the first time.
Tell us about being pregnant, the mother you have become while carrying a new life, and how it’s changed you.
Being pregnant has been a the greatest experience of my life. I’ve been so incredibly blessed and have had a easy, healthy pregnancy. But it definitely have flipped my whole world upside down. I think about the foods I put into my body, I drive slower, and I even rethought my future goals to include this new life in them. My priorities have flipped, but absolutely for the better.
Did you find out the gender of your baby? Is there a name picked out yet?
Yes! We are having a son but no name yet.
What are your must-have pregnancy items?
Must have: pregnancy pillow. It’s changed my life and I will be using it well after this baby comes out. The other thing I would say is Amazon Prime. While this is not actually an “item,” it has made preparing for the baby so easy and convenient.
How did you find out you were expecting?
I just randomly took a test. I don’t know why, as my husband and I weren’t actively trying, I had no symptoms yet, and I wasn’t late. I sat in disbelief for about 5 minutes, and then googled “what cancer causes a false positive.”
How did you tell the father?
My husband and I are both active duty military, and I found out I was pregnant the day he left for a week-long temporary duty out of state. So I did what anyone would do, and frantically called him until he picked up, because there was no way I could keep that to myself for a week.
How has pregnancy changed you as a woman?
I feel so incredible about my body for the first time of my entire life. As a woman, we are taught to criticize ourselves for our imperfections, but since I started growing this tiny human, Ive never loved and appreciated my body more. I am growing life, and there is no greater feeling than that of your baby moving and kicking inside of you.
What are some of your most cherished memories of your childhood and do you plan on passing down any southern traditions?
I’m still pregnant, so my memories include him kicking around, and sitting on my bladder at night. As for traditions, I’m not sure what I want to pass on, just that I hope I can do the best I can at raising him to be the best he can be.
What most surprised you about pregnancy?
The thing that surprised me the most, was how much personality I can already sense in my son while he is still in the womb. He is so playful and energetic already, and I can’t wait to see how it translates to the outside world.
What has been your greatest challenge in being pregnant?
My biggest challenge has been finding clothes that fit. Even yoga pants are feeling rather snug for my liking lately.
What is your greatest joyful memory of being pregnant?
So far, I’d say hiccups! I don’t know why, but I LOVE feeling those little hiccups.
What advice do you wish you had known before getting pregnant?
I wish I had known how that very first doctor appointment was going to go. I had it in my head that I would get an ultrasound every appointment and get to hear the heartbeat but instead found out that you only get two ultrasounds the whole pregnancy and that they wouldn’t check the heartbeat till after 12 weeks as the baby would be too small so check it any earlier. I was so incredibly disappointed after that first appointment and finding all this out.
What would you tell someone who just found out they were pregnant?
That they have to get that pregnancy pillow as soon as humanly possible!
Can you share with our mommies where you purchased the items you wore for your maternity session?
I’ve been craving all things sugar! Especially strawberry flavored desserts.
Do you have any favorite maternity items you couldn’t live without?
Maternity underwear is a must. My hips got wider and my normal underwear was cutting into my side.
If you could give your child one piece of advice what would it be?
To never settle for less because it’s easier.
I found Kelsey through a coworker who just had some photos taken and I was already so impressed with how beautiful their photos turned out. I got some maternity photos set up right away and I couldn’t have had a better experience! She is so bubbly and sweet and made us feel very comfortable the whole session. She captured the beauty and love for my husband and unborn son that I’ve been feeling during my pregnancy, and I can’t wait to have her photograph our baby’s newborn photos once he finally gets here.
Meet the photographer:I’m an avid coffee drinker. A lover of puppy cuddles. A new wife. And, I have a massive case of wonderlust, my goals in life are to travel the world and adopt all of the dogs. Justin, my husband, and I traveled to Italy for our honeymoon. I have always wanted to see everything, but our trip ignited a case of wanderlust like I’ve never seen. My bucket list of places is as long as I am tall. As for adopting all the dogs, we have two so far, Banner and Watson. I know it isn’t practical to adopt ALL the dogs, but I want to do everything I can for animals in need.I am a caffeine addict. My day doesn’t feel like it has started until I’ve had a cup of coffee. Our two pups are creatures of habit, and sleeping in is rarely a thing, so coffee is a necessity. (I honestly think I love coffee as much as a Gilmore!)I am a believer, and thank God everyday for this wonderful life. He has led me down a path that allowed me to pursue my passion, and find a way to share that joy with others. As for what I do: I am a wedding and birth photographer that loves to work with natural light and great people. I work in the Lafayette County and Kansas City areas, but I would love to travel to you! (Check some items off that bucket list, perhaps?)WEBSITE PINTERESTTWITTERINSTAGRAMFACEBOOK
