Meet Southern Mother Erin W. with Sunflower Field Maternity Photos
What does motherhood mean to you?
Motherhood to me is that beaming smile I get from my toddler at 3:00 am when I walk into his room after he wakes up randomly. He’s so happy to see me, that I (almost) forget how tired I am because of that sweet face. I don’t know how such a tiny person can give such a big hug, but it’s possible.
In your own words, tell us about being pregnant, the mother you have become while carrying a new life, and how it’s changed you.
Being pregnant is the most amazing gift that some people get to experience & I’m so thankful that I get to experience it. Being pregnant has made me much more aware of what I’m putting in my body. I’ve really cleaned up my diet because I want to promote healthiness from the beginning, but I do still indulge in the occasional ice cream.
Did you find out the gender of your baby? Is there a name picked out yet?
Yes, we’re having a girl & Yes
Baby’s Name (First & Middle)
Her first name is a surprise, but it starts with an R, her middle name is Elizabeth which is my middle name
What are your must-have pregnancy items?
I love my Leachco pregnancy pillow, a good water bottle to keep you hydrated- I never leave home without a cup full of water, & good supportive shoes days I can wear socks & tennis shoes are my favorite
How did you find out you were expecting?
I thought that I was on the verge of getting the flu (it was prime flu season) and after a week of feeling awful, but never getting fully sick we figured it might not be the flu so I went & bought 3 tests & took them all over the course of a few days just to make sure
How did you tell the father?
He knew I wasn’t feeling well & that I was buying a test. It was still a shock to us both when the test came back positive that I took 2 more the next 2 days!
How has pregnancy changed you as a woman?
Pregnancy definitely makes me learn my limits. I’m constantly on the go whether it be with work or keeping up with my active two-year-old, being pregnant really makes me slow down & take care of myself. As a mom, we get caught up trying to be everything, and it can be hard to ask for help, but sometimes we need to put our feet up & let someone else fold the laundry.
What are some of your most cherished memories of your childhood and do you plan on passing down any southern traditions?
We vacation every summer in the same spot that I did growing up. I love that we’re able to share such fun memories with our kids.
What most surprised you about pregnancy?
The amount of unsolicited advice & personal questions you get from complete strangers. It’s crazy!
What has been your greatest challenge in being pregnant?
Keeping up with my 2-year-old has gotten more and more challenging the more my pregnancy progresses.
What is your greatest joyful memory of being pregnant?
I love feeling all of the movements & kicks. I have very active babies.
What advice do you wish you had known before getting pregnant (even if it’s something gross)?
No one told me that morning sickness could last all day long and go past the first trimester!
What would you tell someone who just found out they were pregnant?
Soak it all in, because it flies by…except the last month, that drags on forever haha. Take those extra bump pictures too! You’ll miss it.
Can you share with our mommies where you purchased the items you wore for your maternity session?
My photographer provided it for me.
Did you have any pregnancy cravings or aversions?
I love fruit and anything cold really helped my nausea so I do a lot of smoothies. No aversions this time, but with my son I couldn’t stand chicken, which I mainly eat. It tasted like rubber to me.
Do you have any favorite maternity items you couldn’t live without?
maxi dresses are my favorite thing to wear right now & my bella band
If you could give your child(ren) one piece of advice what would it be?
I want both my kids to not be afraid to be who they truly are.
Tell us about your session and what the images mean to you.
Abby was great to work with. She absolutely made me feel comfortable and relaxed throughout the entire session. I didn’t do maternity pictures with my son, & this will be our last child so I’ll definitely cherish these.
I am Abby Eich! I am from St. Peters, Missouri. I can trace my passion for photography back to my childhood, when my sister gave me her tiny, “outdoor use only”, Kodak camera. After realizing all the amazing things I could capture and do with a camera, I knew it was something I wanted to play a part in my life.
In May 2009, I graduated from the University of Central Missouri with a Bachelor’s of Fine Arts degree. That following fall after i became engaged, in the midst of all the wedding planning, I realized I wanted to take my “hobby” that I was so passionate about to the next level. So after the “I do’s” were said and the excitement from being a newlywed settled down, in December of 2010 I started my own business.
I have learned so much since and continue to learn something new each day. I put everything I have into my work whether its a session with a client or a simple shot of my dog. I love capturing what life is all about through my style of photojournalism, mixed with beautiful and creative posed shots.
